About The Old Toll Bar

In Glasgow’s Kinning Park, on an unassuming corner of Paisley Road West sits The Old Toll Bar. Beautifully preserved, it is the doorway to a past age, when architecture and ambience were considered inseparable. Built in 1874 and based on London’s famous ‘Gin Palaces’, it was then one of Glasgow’s many architect-designed drinking dens. Now a rare example of its type, it has been lovingly restored to its original grandeur, allowing its ornate wood panelling, decorative mirrors and hand-painted stained glass windows to tell the story of its rich heritage. With not a single television screen to be found, the focus here is on good drinks and good company: an impressive range of expertly mixed cocktails from a specially curated spirit gantry compliments an ever changing craft beer selection in can, bottle, cask and keg.

Close to the busy Finnieston strip, and a short walk from the Hydro and STV and BBC studios, we host regular live music and other events in the evening, lit by atmospheric candlelight, and in better weather you can enjoy your drinks in our secluded beer garden. Step inside The Old Toll Bar, and experience our unique marriage of old fashioned style and modern hospitality.

  • negative review  Been meaning to get out here since it re-opened approx 18 months ago after being closed for 3 years and almost being demolished in the process. Firstly, let me say that the new owner has done a fabulous restoration job in reinstating as many original fittings as poss and having a spectacular looking old heritage pub with a +100 year old whisky safe on his hands. However, rarely have I been so disappointed in a pub. No real ales on at their 2 hand pumps (despite word being that there would always be a rotating Fallen Ales beer on), and of their chalk board of 4 other guest beers the only one still on was Peroni! ! Also looks like the barmaid is letting her pal vape in here too. Oh and the Wi-Fi password is out of date and they don't know the new one... I think the owner needs to keep his ale availability promises and needs to take a good look at his bar staff. Anyway, hope you can see from the couple of pics that the place looks spectacular even if the beer is ultimately standard fare. I'll just be stopping for the one as a result and not in a rush back. Seen it, done it.

  • positive review  Awesome bar staff who are always up for a chat. Live music that is relaxing and adds to the atmosphere. Local punters are friendly, not football fans (unlike the usual bats in this area). You can come in for. Beer, nice chill out and always a nice feeling. Hard to resist just a quick few on the way home from work.
